Northcote Rd Summer Fete Battersea.
Enjoy a scone, paint a tile and donate a coin to help support the Wandsworth Sensory Support Services build a new family centre at Linden Lodge School.
Each year we set up a stand at the Northcote Rd Summer Fete in Battersea. If you haven’t been, it is most definitely worth the visit- buzzing with creative stores, delicious things to eat and a great sense of community spirit. Timely for us, the Northcote Rd Summer Fete shortly follows the strawberry fair on the Isle of Wight – celebrated by our Chessell Pottery Barn in Yarmouth. Subsequently, we have traditionally used the occasion to share a little bit of what we do in the IOW with London- bringing bundles of freshly baked scones and Chessell’s infamous homemade strawberry jam to the streets of Battersea. As an introduction to pottery painting, we have also used the opportunity to offer locals and fete goers the chance to ‘trial a tile’ by getting adventuresome with some finger painting.
In previous years, we have used these tiles to decorate walls and basin backdrops in our Battersea, Richmond and Fulham studios. However, this year we thought it would be rather nice to reinvest our collection of tile handy work back into the community! Sara Gerlings- our Battersea Manager, came up with the lovely idea to build a mural and suggested Linden School as possible place to do so. Apart of the Wandsworth Sensory Support Services, Linden Lodge is a remarkable special educational needs school providing education and exceptional attentive care to children and young people who have complex needs. As regular pottery painters at our Battersea studio, our staff have had the privilege to see first hand the invaluable support this service provides.
Therefore in aid of this great local charity, this year we are inviting all loyal pottery painters and pottery painters to be…to join us at the Northcote Rd Summer Fete to donate a coin and fingerprint a tile, to help the Wandsworth Sensory Support Services raise £100,000 towards the construction of a new family centre at Linden Lodge. This incredible facility will offer vital support & advice to over 800 local sensory impaired children, young people and their families- from birth to 19 years.
The tiles we collect from the Fete will then be used to feature in a beautiful mural wall to celebrate the opening of the new family centre, representing our community’s collective effort to offer a helping hand.
If you can’t make it down, please consider making a donation to www.justgiving.com/wandsworth-sensory-support-service.
